Background to Level3
The development of an online DIT journal of research and scholarly
activity was a logical progression of the professional development
trajectory already established across the DIT.
A number of recent developments gave impetus to that trajectory,
including:
• the establishment of a Learning and Teaching Strategies
Committee of Academic Council in 1997
• the creation of the Learning and Teaching Centre in Mount
Street in 2000
• the formulation of DIT policy on Research and Scholarly
Activity in 2000
• the appointment of a Head of Research Activities in 2002
• the recruitment of the Learning Technology Team in 2002
• the research activities of DIT academic staff on the DIT
Masters Programme in Third Level Learning and Teaching an in eLearning
•the growing interest among doctoral students in publishing their research scholarly journals • the increase in research by DIT staff with consequent increase in a range of publication modes
