Jim
McGovern, Ph.D.
Jim McGovern is the Head of the School of Mechanical and Transport Engineering
at the Dublin Institute of Technology, which he joined in March 2003.
In his career to date Dr McGovern has worked for Adtec Teoranta, the Physics
Department at University College Galway, Carlow Regional Technical College
(now Carlow Institute of Technology), Trinity College Dublin (from October
1981 to the end of 2000), Simtherg Limited (a campus company, which he
set up at Trinity College), SMCI Software Limited and the Irish Department
of Transport (for six weeks). Besides carrying out research in the general
area of Applied Thermodynamics over many years, he has had very extensive
experience of the use of computer modelling and simulation techniques
in areas that have included energy use in buildings, wave power, engines,
power plants, desalination, compressors, gas turbines, heat pumps, refrigeration,
oil burners, process engineering and transport engineering. Dr McGovern
has recently set up the MTT Simulate group, which is based in the School
of Mechanical and Transport Engineering at the Dublin Institute of Technology
and has as its objective the advancement of the use of simulation and
computer modelling techniques in the areas of mechanical, thermal and
transport engineering.
